Fit to Learn is the result of a joint collaboration between Wakefield Family Services and Mid Yorkshire NHS therapy services. It is a motor skills programme, a "Wave 2" intervention, to meet the needs of childen with motor coordination difficulties.

Why?

Approximately 10% of the population suffer from coordination difficulties, with  6%meeting the criteria for a diagnosis of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). This means that there will be at least one affected child in an average school class. Research shows that children do not grow out of DCD, and that left untreated it affects physical, educational and social performance.

This programme won an NHS innovation award in 2010 following a successful pilot in Wakefield schools.

Move'n Learn is very similar in design and structure to Fit to Learn but is intended for the nursery age range. It is recognised that early intervention is very beneficial and improves the childs feelings of competence while developing their motor skills .
